Back in 1985, Thundersley Rovers were searching for a ground on which to host a touring team from the West Indies.

Unfortunately our closest professional team, Southend United, were unable to accomodate the club on this particular occasion - as confirmed by none other than former Southend manager and England legend, Bobby Moore.

Eventually however Rovers were able to secure Canvey Island FC's ground as an alternative venue in order to allow the game to go ahead - much to the delight of the Touring Team manager Tony Lee, who wrote this letter of gratitude to the club following their visit!

The following year, in June 1986, Rovers travelled to the Caribbean where they played teams from Trinidad, Tobago, Antigua and Barbados - including a President's XI on the latter island - as part of a memorable three-week tour.
