With the 2012/13 season almost upon us, both of our senior sides plus the under 10s were in action over the weekend in a series of friendlies.

Ryan's youngsters got their first taste of playing on the new blue-lined pitch at The Common with games agains Ecko Whitecaps (Saturday) and Leigh Ramblers (Sunday).

Although they lost both matches - 6-1 and 3-1 respectively - the final scores were by no way representative of the balance of play, although all nine squad players received the benefit of a thorough workout and increased fitness ahead of the league campaign.

Saturday afternoon saw Dean's senior team take on local rivals Sporting Hadleigh at The Common where they recorded an impressive 6-2 win.

Rovers, who were leading 6-0 at one stage took their foot off the pedal in the closing stages, but for which the final score may have been even more impressive. The two sides meet again in Rovers' opening fixture of their Borough Combination Division 3 campaign in a fortnight's time.

On Sunday afternoon Nigel's senior team travelled to Basildon where they faced Southray who play in the Sceptre League Premier Division, a league above the Rovers who will feature in Division 1 this coming season.

2-1 down at the break, the sun - and lack of available substitutes - eventually took its toll on Rovers who ended up going down 6-2.
