Thundersley Rovers are top of the pile in the Sceptre Sunday League Division One after winning their second successive away fixture.

Having got their season off to the perfect start at Berry Boys last weekend Nigel Purkis' Sunday senior side pulled off yet another impressive win at Pro Max this morning with goals from Chris Armstrong and Paul Mason securing a 2-0 win for the Rovers.

John Lofthouse thought he had grabbed a third in the closing minutes but his effort was ruled out for offside by referee Brian Chester.

Thundersley Rovers: Chris Turner, Carl Harris, Dan Thrale (c), Jamie Jarvis, Greg Dearlove, Chris Armstrong, Alex MacDonald, Darren Hillman, Paul Mason, Mark Cooper, John Lofthouse.

Subs: James MacDonald.

Goals: Chris Armstrong, Paul Mason.

Meanwhile there was further good news for Thundersley as Dean Shamshoum's Saturday senior team won a keenly-fought derby against Sporting Hadleigh courtesy of a superb solo effort from Lewis Bickford yesterday afternoon.

Rovers, who beat the same opposition 6-2 in a friendly encounter at The Common just a fortnight ago found themselves up against a stronger Hadleigh side this time around but defended superbly to hold on to their narrow advantage and record an impressive 1-0 win.

Thundersley Rovers: Luke Baker, Brad Manning, Dave Lund, Lee Hamilton, Ben Koppit, Dean Shamshoum, Matt Porter, George, Chris Davis, Lewis Bickford, James White.

Subs: Chay Spreadborough, Matt Fearn, Ed Mackintosh.

Subs not used: Ray Bishop, Chris Park.

Goals: Lewis Bickford.

However there was heartbreak for our under 10s at The Common this morning as they were beaten by a last-gasp winner in the opening game of their South East Essex Primary League Division One campaign.

Having gone into the half time break on level terms with Concord Rangers at a goal apiece, Ryan Scott-Douglas' team fell behind with just five minutes remaining - before Luis Shamshoum appeared to have rescued a point with a superbly taken free kick in the dying seconds.

However the visitors took all three points with what proved to be the last kick of the game to condemn an unlucky Rovers to a 3-2 defeat.

Thundersley Rovers U10s: David Jarrett, Franklyn Mguni, Archie Ralph, Bailey Scott-Douglas (c), Luis Shamshoum, Stanley Peek, Kye Smith.

Subs not used: Jim Higgins.

Goals: Bailey Scott-Douglas, Luis Shamshoum.
