A busy weekend saw Thundersley Common drenched in autumnal sunshine - and four of our five teams in action.

The predicted rainfalls thankfully failed to materialise and it proved to be a great weekend at our home venue for players and spectators - who turned up in their numbers - alike.

The weekend's fixtures got under way on Saturday morning as Dave Wilson's under 7s made their debut performance against a sporting Corringham Athletic side. Although Rovers went down 4-0 there were plenty of positives to take into the next game, scheduled for 24 hours later.

The under 7s fixture was immediately followed on the larger junior pitch by Dave Thompson's under 8s match against the same opponents, with Corringham edging that one 2-0. However it could have been so different had Rovers' two shots that hit the post found the back of the net.

Saturday afternoon saw Dean Shamshoum's senior team in Chautard Cup action with Rovers earning passage to the next round of the competition courtesy of a 5-3 win - although they had to work hard to get it, having seen 2-0 and 3-2 leads wiped out before securing the win with two late strikes.

Nigel Purkis' seniors were first out of the blocks on Sunday morning but came off second-best in the battle of the Sceptre League Division One pacesetters. 0-0 at half time, Rovers lost their way - and their unbeaten record - after the break, going down 4-0 in the end to Beachboys FC who now top the table.

The defeat means Rovers drop to third in the table behind Trinity - who they face next week - on goal difference.

Our only team playing away from home this week were Ryan Scott-Douglas' under 10s, who rcorded a morale-boosting 2-1 friendly win against Essex Royals with goals from Kye Smith and Luis Shamshoum.

The weekend's final fixture saw the under 7s in action for a second time in 24 hours when they took on a Southend-based team at Thundersley Common.

Although they went down 6-2, it was another impressive performance from Dave Wilson's team in only their second-ever outing; goals from Lucas Willison and Taylor Legg were celebrated in suitably-impressive style by a healthy crowd who had gathered on the Common to cheer on our youngest team.
