Our Saturday senior team stormed to the top of the Southend Borough Combination Division 3 this afternoon with a seven-goal thrashing of Catholic United IIIs.

Dean Shamshoum's team secured a third straight win of the season this afternoon by comprehensively beating the division's whipping boys 7-0 in a one-sided affair at Thundersley Common.

United - whose only previous league outing this season saw them slump to an 11-2 defeat at the hands of fellow title-contenders Christchurch - were no match for a vibrant Rovers side who could have hit double figures themselves had they not taken their foot off the gas and used all available substitutes in the second half.

Earlier in the day all three of our junior sides were in action, with both the under 7s and under 8s featuring at Thundersley Common.

The under 8s kicked off proceedings this morning with a 2-2 draw against Springfield FC. Having gone into the half time break at 1-1, David Thompson's team took the lead earlier on in the second half before being pegged back. Rovers goals - their first having drawn blanks in their first three outings - came from Ismael Choudhary and Niall Stringer.

Next up were Dave Wilson's under 7s, who played Focus Ferrers. Having fallen behind twice, the youngsters restored parity on each occasion before conceding a third on the stroke of half time. With a number of changes in the second half to ensure all six substitutes enjoyed a taste of the action Rovers lost their momentum and ended up going down 8-3; the goals coming from Ali Haji (x2) and Lucas Willison.

Finally the under 10s were in South East Essex Primary League Division One action against Southend Manor Tigers. In what always promised to be a tough encounter against one of the title challengers, Ryan Scott-Douglas' boys were heavily beaten - although Luis Shamshoum provided one bright moment with a consolation goal.

Only one of our teams are in action tomorrow when the under 8s take on Berry Boys at Thundersley Common (12.30pm kick off) - although our newly-formed veterans team will be training between 2.00-3.00pm , also at the Common. Newcomers welcome.
