Rovers' Saturday seniors kept up their promotion charge with a comfortable win over Little Theatre Club at Thundersley Common this afternoon.

Dean Shamshoum's side were once again decimated by a string of injuries but still good enough to record a 3-0 win over the Borough Com Division 3 strugglers.

On the warmest day of the year so far, Ross Birnie scored the only goal of a quiet first half when he bundled the ball home from close range just before the break.

Following a couple of early scares, the prolific Ed McIntosh doubled Rovers' lead midway through the second half with a clever finish - before Brad Manning put the result beyond doubt with another close-range effort a few minutes later.

The win ensures Rovers remain in second place in the division with just four games of the season remaining. You may see the current table - and the latest results - on the FA's website.

In today's other game, Thundersley Rovers' recently-formed Veterans team played their first ever home fixture against Chingford United at the Common this morning.

Despite controlling the majority of the game, Rovers' profligacy in front of goal proved costly as the visitors - who led 3-1 at the break - eventually ran out 5-2 winners.

Goalscorers for Rovers were Dave Thompson and Chris Armstrong (from the penalty spot).

Sadly the day was to end on a sour note for the team after it was confirmed that captain Richard Thacker would require emergency surgery on a ruptured achilles tendon.

The centre-half sustained the injury after stretching for a ball in the first half of today's match; everyone at the club would like to extend our best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery to Richard.

Please note that none of the junior teams nor our (Sunday) Seniors are in action tomorrow (Sunday).
